The Music Room The Music Room
Larry’s bedroom was in need of an update. He is music mad and wanted a more grown-up vintage look, so we took that as our starting point.

There  are musically-inspired wallpapers and wall art available, but they tend to be quite expensive. Larry had picked up a box of old sheet music for a couple of pounds, so we decided to use it as an eco-friendly alternative.

We thought that covering the whole room in music would have been too busy, so Larry chose a gorgeous buttery yellow for the bottom half of the room and I fitted a white dado rail to break it up. I also sanded and painted an old dark-wood chest of drawers. It’s easy to pick these up in charity shops for around £30-50, and with a bit of work they can look fresher and less oppressive.

Larry’s double bass  has pride of place in the room and finishes off the look perfectly.

The secret to creating this room was a bit of time and imagination- none of the materials were expensive and many were already in the house. Larry says:

“I would never have thought of using old sheet music as wallpaper. It’s given it just the right feel and saved us a fortune on fancy wallpaper. Very creative.”
